Alcohol and Other Drugs workers require high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health related to drugs and alcohol misuse.
Diploma of Mental Health
This qualification develops the knowledge and skills for workers to provide services to clients in regard to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. It requires high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health
Diploma of Counselling
This qualification reflects the role of counsellors who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities.
They use communication, micro counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients.
At this level, the counsellor will be working in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies, rather than in independent practice.
